John Waters picked up by band while hitchhiking

Director John Waters was hitchhiking in Ohio and picked up by the members of the band, Here We Go Magic.

The band was on tour, heading for their next stop, when they came across the cult film director.

“Getting back on the highway this morning, there was a man at the side of the on-ramp with a sign that read "to the end of Rte 70." Jen wanted to pick him up, but we drove past him,” said the band’s guitarist Michael Bloch in an email. “As we passed by, our sound guy said "John Waters." Luke said, "Yep, definitely John Waters." We got off at the next exit and circled back. He was still there. We pulled up, opened the door and asked where he was coming from. "Baltimore," he said. And we said ‘Get in, sir.’”

Bassist Jen Turner tweeted as to Waters’s potential itinerary.

"Mr. Waters is headed across the US. I think we're dropping him in Indianapolis if u want to grab him next," she wrote.

Waters has hitchhiked before, as he revealed in a 2011 interview.

“I do still hitchhike – it’s a great way to meet people, and to have sex. I’ve hitchhiked in Baltimore, Provincetown, San Francisco…”
