Justin Bieber was caught in a tabloid-driven baby scandal late last year where 20-year-old Mariah Yeater claimed Bieber, 18, was the father of her baby. Yeater’s story was a fabrication, but Bieber decided to put his thoughts on the story and allegations into a song that will be featured on his upcoming album, Believe.
During a chat with MTV News, the “Boyfriend” singer said that Believe is a much more personal album.
"I'm just talking about what's relevant in my life and different stories that have come out," he explained. "I've talked about that on my album: different situations that I've been in and things that I'm feeling.”
Bieber says the rumor he fathered Yeater's baby was one of those things he wanted to talk about. He says the song he wrote about the situation is like his own personal “Billie Jean.”
“The whole baby situation, where they said I had [Mariah Yeater’s] baby — totally not true by the way — [I] wrote a song about that, so that's on [the new album]. It's like my 'Billie Jean.' At the end of the day, I'm human," he added. "I want to talk about that. There's things that i can relate to that I'm able to sing about that [the fans] can listen to and be like, 'I get where he's coming from.' That's kind of what my whole motive is with this album."
Bieber most recently acknowledged Yeater in a Twitter post where he used a Borat clip to tell her, “You will never get this.”
"Dear mariah yeeter (sic)...we have never met...so from the heart i just wanted to say...” he wrote, posting the link to the Borat clip.
Fans will get to hear his personal thoughts on the subject when Believe is released on June 19.
