The movie poster for Perry's first theatrically released film, due out July 5, features the pop star singing in front of a mirror. The Perry outside the mirror is crooning a tune to a hairbrush with a white tank top, floral skirt, and long socks on in the comfort of her own bedroom. With mic in hand and the sporting “California Gurls” blue wig, the reflection Katy Perry dons a red dress as confetti falls in a concert setting. The photo contrasts the simple Katy Perry with the larger than life Perry we have seen in the Teenage Dream album era. Part of Me 3D documents Perry's life on the road during her California Dreams Tour.
Last Thursday night, Perry accepted the award for Artist of the Year at the NARM Music Awards, capping off a successful two years since the release of her big selling album, Teenage Dream. While accepting the award, Perry announced the that mellow mid-tempo track, “Wide Awake,” will serve as the promotional single for the Part of Me 3D film. The single will also be her final from her re-release Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, closing that chapter of music in her life.
“I swear, after this song, I'm taking a f—cking vacation,” Perry said at the NARM Music Awards about her new single and taking a break afterward.
Perry will also perform the new song for the first time this Sunday at the Billboard Music Awards, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She is up for nine awards this Sunday. "Wide Awake" will also be released to radio next month following the performance.
Teenage Dream was released in August 2010 and hit number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album has since gone on to sell more than 2 million copies in the U.S. alone. Perry caught up to Michael Jackson's record for most number one singles from one album when Teenage Dream matched Bad in producing five consecutive number one hits on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. Her first single from the Complete Confection re-release, “Part of Me,” hit number one in February.
