While The Avengers still continues to top box office sales as the opener for this year’s summer blockbusters, Marvel is already at work with sequels for Iron Man, Captain America and Thor.
In a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, Mikkelsen was said to be in negotiations with Marvel to star alongside Tom Hiddleston as villains in the upcoming Thor 2. Hiddleston played the character Loki, the Norse god of mischief, in Thor and The Avengers. Other than playing one of Thor’s antagonists, it is unclear what character Mikkelsen will play at the moment.
Variety.com reported that most of the other cast and crew members, including Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) would also be returning to the sequel.
Production is expected to begin this summer in London, with a hopeful November 15, 2013 release date.
Mikkelsen is known by American audiences for his roles in films like Casino Royale and Clash of the Titans. He is currently filming The Neccessary Death of Charlie Countryman with Shia LaBeouf.
