Reese Witherspoon may be expecting her third child and first with new husband Jim Toth, but that didn’t stop her from hitting the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in support of her film Mud.
Witherspoon, who has yet to comment on her pregnancy but makes it rather obvious with her growing baby bump, walked the red carpet in a form-fitting black jersey dress on Saturday.
Although the 36-year-old actress only had a small part in the film, she was on hand to support it after a 14-hour flight.
The film, which stars Matthew McConaughey and was both written and directed by Jeff Nichols, takes place in the south.
“I grew up with my brother in a creek, riding dirt bikes, dirt fishing, everything you see the boys in the movie doing," Witherspoon said at a press conference for the film, People reports. "When I read Jeff's script, it felt like home. It's a beautiful story about the place I'm from."
Witherspoon grew up in Tennessee and Nichols said he “needed” her for the small part.
“Even if her screen time is limited and, bless her heart, I kept her in a motel room most of the time, she still managed to look good," he explained. "I needed someone who, when she showed up, it was like, she's here! She had to be believable and stand out at the same time."
E! Online reports that the private actress didn’t mention her pregnancy at all during promotion of the film in Cannes. She’s expected to give birth this fall.
