Robert Pattinson to join cast of 'Catching Fire'?

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Now that The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, has finalized a director in Francis Lawrence, rumors are on the rise that Twilight actor Robert Pattinson is slated to join the cast of the hit trilogy alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

According to reports, Lionsgate has asked that Pattinson take on the role of Finnick Odair, a ladies man who is also a former tribute.

Catching Fire is set to premiere in 2013, just one year after The Hunger Games blew through the box-office, grossing $152,535,747 in its opening weekend.

However, fans need not get excited yet. According to Huffington Post, casting Pattinson will be difficult as he just finished his contract with the Twilight Saga and is "finally" free to star in whatever he chooses. Huffington Post reports that the rumors are simply that, rumors. The site notes that the story got started on the Think McFly Think blog.

Lionsgate released a statement saying, "As with the first film, we won't be confirming, denying or commenting any casting rumors for this title. We will announce news wide when there is official casting news to announce."

Catching Fire is set to start filming this summer, and will make its debut November 22, 2013.
