Shakira debuted the clip for her latest Spanish single, “Addicted to You,” on Wednesday. Contrary to the English title, the merengue-sounding pop number is sung by the global superstar in Spanish as she details her infatuation for a lover.
“Here it is! Shakira's brand new #AddictedToYou video. Let us know what you think,” wrote the Colombian singer's public relations team on her Twitter.
“Addicted to You,” is the fifth single of Shakira's bilingual album, Sale el sol (The Sun Comes Out). The video that premiered on Youtube features the singer dancing around a town, a cathedral-looking room, and a bathtub. While much of the background contains elements of old Spanish style, Shakira is donning some high fashion, including a black-and-white striped dress and a loose polka dotted blouse among other trendy garments. Shakira's blonde locks are shoulder length in this vibrantly-colored music video.
Upon release, #AddictedToYou trended worldwide on Twitter, which is not surprising given Shakira's global appeal and success.
“Great to see #AddictedToYou trending all over the world. Press RT to help it do the same where you are!” Shakira's public relations team Tweeted concerning the trending hash tag.
Sale el sol peaked at number seven on the all-genre Billboard album chart in 2010 and stayed at number one for more than twelve consecutive weeks on the Latin albums chart. Shakira is already working with DJs and other producers for a follow-up album.
