Last Wednesday, Soundgarden released the video for “Live to Rise,” their first newly written, released song in 15 years.
The video includes scenes from the movie, Marvel’s The Avengers, and is only available on the movie’s soundtrack album, Avengers Assemble, from Hollywood Records, available now.
The soundtrack also includes music from Evanescence, Rise Against, Papa Roach, Bush, Black Veil Brides and others.
Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell told Billboard magazine about writing the song, “The hard part of writing a song for a film is it has to act as a Soundgarden song, first and foremost, then obviously, it has to coexist with the film.”
The song was released on April 17 and offered for free by Soundgarden, through iTunes, during its first week and more than 350,000 copies were downloaded, according to the Huffington Post.
The band has been hard at work on their yet to be named follow-up to 1996’s Down on the Upside, with a current expected release date of fall 2012. The single, “Live to Rise,” will not be featured on that album.
Soundgarden is currently touring in Europe.
