Barbra Streisand is making her directorial comeback, 16 years after she directed 1996’s The Mirror Has Two Faces.
The singer and actress has been tapped to direct the Colin Firth and Cate Blanchett-starring Skinny and Cat, which will be produced by screenwriter Linda Yellen.
The film, which is based on writer Erskine Caldwell and photojournalist Margaret Bourke White, will hit theaters in January 2013. It’s being independently financed.
According to Showbiz411, Streisand will appear in front of the camera alongside Seth Rogan this Christmas in The Guilt Trip. She also has sold out appearances at Brooklyn’s new Barclay Center.
Cinema Blend reports that Streisand hasn’t appeared in any films in over 10 years besides Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers.
Streisand is likely also still working on a film adaptation of Gypsy. Universal has reportedly hired Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes to write the script, based on Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents’ Tony-award winning musical.
