NBC's cult comedy finally gets an 'A'

After a rocky third season, Community finally received top marks, taking home the Critics Choice Television Award for best comedy series Monday night.

Fans and critics of the show alike were surprised when nominations were released earlier this month, especially when Community received nominations in six categories, including five actor nominations to Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Alison Brie, and Gillian Jacobs for leading and supporting roles in a comedy series.

Reuters reports that Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, of ABC's Modern Family, beat Pudi, Rash, Brie, and Jacobs for best supporting roles in a comedy series, while Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) shared the award for best actress in a comedy series with Zooey Deschanel (New Girl).

With the exception of Christina Hendricks winning for best supporting actress in a drama series, Hollywood Reporter notes that Mad Men went home without its usual array of honors, while Breaking Bad and Homeland took home best actor in a drama series (Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad), best supporting actor in a drama series (Giancarlo Esposito, Breaking Bad), best actress in a drama series (Claire Danes, Homeland), and best drama series (Homeland).
