Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman turns 31-years-old today.
Portman had a great year, and is starting to step out for more roles since winning an Oscar for her lead role in Darren Aronofsky’s 2010 film Black Swan. As E! News notes, after the 2011 awards season, she withdrew from the industry. She married Benjamin Millepied and, shortly after she turned 30, gave birth to their first child Aleph.
Over the past few months, Portman has been lining up projects to keep her busy while raising her child. In November, she landed her first post-pregnancy role, acting in a reading of Billy Wilder’s 1960 classic The Apartment. She also worked as ambassador to Free the Children in April. Also in April, she and Johnny Depp starred in a music video for Paul McCartney’s My Valentine single.
As for film roles, last month, she joined the cast of Lynne Ramsay’s Western, Jane Got A Gun. That project drew buzz from potential distributors at the Cannes Film Festival.
She is also working on two films for director Terrence Malick, Lawless and Knight of Cups. Both films co-star christian Bale and are expected to be released next year. She’ll also star in Thor 2.
Happy birthday, Natalie! We hope you enjoy it!
