Katy Perry saw her 1-year marriage to Russell Brand come to an end last year. While her marriage was crumbling, she was performing on her California Dreams Tour, which was a place she didn’t want her personal troubles to get in the way.
"I love being onstage, and even though I went through some pretty tough times last year, I had to separate that because I know my problems are my problems and they are not the audience's problems," she told The Graham Norton Show late last week.
Perry says she got through it with a “show must go on” mentality.
"They are here to see a show and to be entertained, so I got on that lift, put a smile on my face and went up [onstage] with my t--s spinning!" she said.
Perry’s past year, including the good and the bad, is documented in her upcoming concert film Katy Perry: Part of Me, which hits theaters July 5. She has said she wanted to include everything to show pop stars and celebrities aren’t as perfect as people may think.
“I think sometimes people think that we’re perfect, and we know we’re not perfect, at all,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month. “I think it’s important [to] start breaking down the idea that, to achieve your dream, you always have to be perfect, or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world. That’s why I decided to put everything into the film, in the most tasteful way.”
