Singer and actress Lauryn Hill is facing hefty charges now that the IRS alleges that she has willfully refrained from filing her income taxes for three years.
According to NJ Today, the former Fugees singer failed to file taxes for the calendar years 2005, 2006 and 2007. She reportedly owns and operated four corporations and her primary source of income is from royalties in both film and music in which she received over $1.8 million.
Hill will face up to one year in prison along with a $100,000 fine for each count if convicted. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 29. Hill hasn’t written music for a film since 2007’s Surf’s Up. However, she reportedly played for a sold out show in London’s Indigo2 arena.
The Grammy award-winner was recently in the news following the announcement of her ex-boyfriend Rohan Marley’s engagement to Isabeli Fontana. Marley and Hill have five children together.
Hill remains in New Jersey where she lives quietly with her six children. The singer/actress has yet to release a comment regarding the claims.
