Maroon 5’s Adam Levine cast in ‘Can A Song Save Your Life?’ with Keira Knightley

By Daniel S Levine,

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is breaking into movie roles. The singer and The Voice judge has been cast in an upcoming film titled Can A Song Save Your Life?, which stars Keira Knightley.

Deadline first reported the casting news on Thursday, noting that it will be director John Carney’s next film. Carney directed Once, which was recently turned into a Broadway musical, which just earned the Tony Award for Best Musical. The film also won the Oscar for Best Song.

Knightley, who is starring in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, The Avengers’ Mark Ruffalo and Hailee Steinfeld will also star in the film. Anthony Bregman will produce alongside Exclusive Media. Judd Apatow is set to executive produce.

This will be Levine’s second try at acting. In March, it was first reported that he would have a multi-episode stint on the second season of FX’s American Horror Story. He confirmed the role a month later. “I mean, it's pretty much happening. I think it's happening. I don't know how much I can divulge, because [co-creator] Ryan [Murphy] is very under wraps,” he told E! News at the time.

There is no word as to when production on Can A Song Save Your Life? will start. Levine is touring with Maroon 5 and is prepping for the first fall season of The Voice.

Meanwhile, Knightley stars in the upcoming Steve Carell comedy, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which opens June 22.
