In this hour-long, two episode special of Melissa and Joey, all of the drama is subdued by heartwarming messages and loads of laughs.
The first episode is called, "Good to Go." Joe comes back from a run and finds Mel sitting in the kitchen. She says she is eating breakfast, but there is nothing in front of her and she is waiting for Joe to make her food. He offers to give her some of his health shake. They are interrupted in their banter about said health shake when Mel gets a call from Aidan, Lennox's boyfriend's mom. She wonders where her son is because he never got home the night before. Joe and Mel go up to Lennox's room and find Lennox and Aidan wrapped up in the bed together sleeping. Mel tells Aidan's mom he is fine and Joe immediately responds and says, "Not for long."
The two wake up and see Joe and Mel had started to panic a little, rightfully so, because in the next move, Joe is ready to pounce on Aidan and starts to go for him. Mel jumps on top of Joe to stop him and tells Aidan to run. Once he is out of the room, Mel and Joe start to talk to Lennox. Joe is angry and Mel tells him to leave so she can have a good "girl talk" with Lennox. At first, he refuses to leave, but eventually gets the message and decides to go.
Mel tells Lennox that her first time having sex should be special and she tries to figure out what happened the previous night. Lennox reassures her that she did nothing of the sort with Aidan and Mel is relieved. As Lennox flops back down on the bed, Mel lectures her on the importance of waiting and loving the person you do it with. Lennox falls asleep during Mel's lecture.
Back in the kitchen, Mel is back at the table when Joe comes bounding in, fresh off of a run. She tells him she has "deja-Joe," because he just went for a run. He tells her he went for a chase, but Aidan hid in a church. To let off steam, Joe says he did squats and lifted a car. Mel assures him that Lennox did nothing with Aidan and he is relieved. Lennox comes back downstairs and is starting to have a conversation with Joe and Mel when Joe gets uncomfortable and leaves to go for another run. When he's gone, Lennox thanks Mel and tells her she will take her advice and have sex with Aidan. Mel freaks out and leaves to "go for a run," as well.
Meanwhile, Ryder is with his girlfriend, Holly kissing on the couch. She tells him that his facial hair is annoying her, and he tells her that he only has like three hairs on his face. Holly is trying not to be controlling with Ryder and asks him if he would like help shaving. He asks her to help and she is ecstatic about it.
When Joe comes back from a run, he tells Mel all that matters is that Lennox isn't having sex. Mel stops him and tells him that she isn't YET. He freaks out and she explains the conversation she had with Lennox. She tries to explain that she thinks it is better for Lennox to have sex with Aidan whom she loves and knows and is a good kid, rather than someone just for the sake of doing it. Joe does not see it the same way. He decides to take action.
At the same time, Holly comes over to spend a night watching movies with Ryder. He has everything ready, but first she wants to shave his face so they can kiss without her being irritated.
When Mel returns from trash hunting, where she finds a lamp somebody threw out, she sees Aidan's parents, two therapists, waiting with Joe. Joe thinks that by getting Aidan's parents there, he will be able to stop what Lennox and Aidan are planning to do. Aidan's parents tell Joe and Mel that they completely approve and encourage what Lennox and Aidan want to do. They think that it is okay and that Lennox and Aidan are a perfect match. Mel tells Joe that what Aidan's parents are doing is giving the kids permission. When Aidan and Lennox come home, Aidan's parents embrace them, showing their approval of the situation.
Joe and Mel are pacing and worried in the kitchen, while Lennox and Aidan are upstairs doing whatever. Joe wants to stop them and Mel tells him that they can't. Joe decides he can't stay there anymore and leaves to go outside. Mel follows him and explains they need to stay in case something happens, and tells him he will feel better after medicine, and by medicine she means wine.
Meanwhile, Holly shaves Ryder's face with women's shaving cream and a pink razor. He is nervous, but she doesn't hurt him and is happy with her task.
Upstairs in Lennox's room, Aidan and Lennox start to kiss but realize it is awkward that their guardians think nothing of it and even approve of it. They decide they don't want to do it anymore and Aidan sneaks out of her room so he doesn't have to be grilled by Mel or Joe. When Lennox comes downstairs, she tells Mel that nothing happened and they didn't do anything. She tells her Aidan left hours earlier. Mel is relieved and tells Joe as soon as Lennox leaves. He is beyond excited and starts to do a happy dance. They go to drink some wine and Mel has a sudden realization that now they won't know when or whom Lennox has sex with. They both become very worried once again. Ryder comes downstairs with a bunch of tissue papers on his face from shaving. Joe notices and asks him if he shaved and he responds yes and that it was his first time. Mel hugs him and tells him he smells like strawberry and jasmine. Ryder responds that so does Holly's face. Joe high fives him as he walks away. Mel turns to Joe at the end and says, "Double standard?" to which Joe responds, "You know it baby!"
The episode ends with a meeting between Joe and Mel and Aidan's parents. They want Lennox and Aidan to try to have sex again. Mel doesn't appreciate what they are saying, and tells Joe to talk to them. He threatens them a little bit and tells them to leave.
The next episode of the night was titled "Eat Pray Date." In this episode, Joe is convinced that Mel is having an affair with a married man and the kids deal with their own issues. In the beginning of the episode, Mel is leaving, but Lennox and Ryder interrupt her with their problems. Lennox's friend has a boyfriend and she doesn't really get along with him. Mel tells her they need to try to be friends. Ryder needs help figuring out a gift for Holly, his girlfriend's birthday.
Mel helps them as best she can before running out the door. However, before she does, Joe walks out in a towel and tells her he would love to take a shower with hot water. Ryder tells them that the gas company called and they find a bunch of old bills hidden away. Joe tells Mel that he will take over the bill paying and the finances. She agrees to let him, but not before making a joke about his past business failures. He laughs it off.
Mel is at work and talking to the press about food trucks. Before she leaves, she asks a handsome lawyer to stay back so they can talk. They discuss where to get lunch and as they leave to go get lunch, Joe walks up with his cell phone and tells Mel to tell the man that he can control her finances. As he does, the handsome lawyer takes a call and Joe overhears it and realizes that he is married.
Back at home, Lennox has invited her friend and her boyfriend over. Her friend goes to the bathroom, leaving Lennox and her boyfriend alone. Lennox tries to talk to him and tries to be friends with them. They start talking and everything is okay, until he admits he sits behind her in class and likes to look at her neck. She gets a little freaked out and her friend emerges from the bathroom. They start to head out, but Lennox puts on a big scarf right before they do.
Joe is going through the credit card statement and finds a bunch of weird charges for something he doesn't know. He calls the number and finds out that it is room charges for a hotel downtown. He asks the young man on the phone if she stays the night, but he tells Joe that Mel just stays for the day and never the night. Joe starts to become even more suspicious.
Ryder got a nice red shirt for Holly's birthday and when Lennox is home he asks her for her opinion on the shirt. Lennox tells him it is nice and he is goofy and adorable and it's great. Lennox still needs advice about her friend's boyfriend and tries to find Mel, who is still MIA. She finds Joe and he tells her what he would do. He says that Lennox should just tell her friend that her boyfriend hit on her. She asks if he would do the same, and he realizes he needs to help his friend out as well.
After his realization, he runs over to the hotel to stop Mel. When he knocks on the door, she is shocked to find him. He tells her she is worth more than being someone's affair. She lets him in the room and in on the secret. She goes to the hotel every week where she takes a bath, puts on a robe, watches chick flicks in the soft bed and eats chocolate. She tells him she loves work and the family, but she needs the time away from the questions and problems. He understands and lets her go on with her day.
Ryder wraps Holly's red shirt for when she comes over. She shows up wearing the same shirt. He is upset and anxious because he bought her the same one. She asks to see the gift, and loves that he bought the same shirt because it shows he knows what she likes. They kiss and Ryder is relieved.
Meanwhile, Lennox invites her friend over and tries to break the news gently to her. Accidentally, Lennox lets it slip that her friend's boyfriend hit on her. Her friend tells her there is no way that is true, because her boyfriend only likes girls like her and not like Lennox. Lennox gets offended and her friend leaves after they fight. Afterwards, her friend's boyfriend comes over and explains that he always liked Lennox and never really wanted to date her friend, only Lennox. She is flattered and agrees to go out with him when he asks her out.
When Mel gets home, she asks about the kids' problems. Lennox tells her that she and her friend's boyfriend are good and Ryder tells her that Holly loved the present. Joe shows up and tells the kids to leave Mel alone and give her some time alone. She thanks him, but he plops down on the sofa next to her and puts on the sports game.
The episode ends with Mel finding a basket that Joe left for her. It contains soft sheets, a robe, chocolate and a chick flick. He tells her that way she can enjoy the alone time in the privacy of her room. He also tells her it is way cheaper. She makes a joke that the money is all her cares about, but thanks him for his sweet gesture. She asks him a silent question, and he thinks she wants him to hang out, but instead she throws half of the chocolate bar at him and asks him to put it in the fridge and darts upstairs. To spite her, he takes a big bite of the chocolate bar before going into the kitchen.
