Another musician is reportedly having trouble paying taxes. Rapper R. Kelly reportedly owes the government back taxes going all the way to 2005.
According to a TMZ report on Thursday on the “Trapped in the Closet” rapper, the IRS has filed documents showing that he owes taxes from 2005 to 2010, including two years in which he failed to pay over $1 million. In 2005 alone, he owed the government $1,472,366.77 and he owes $1,122,694.90 for 2008. In total, he owes a whopping $4,848,072.71.
"R. Kelly is in the process of working everything out with the government and is confident that all his obligations will be satisfied,” his representative told TMZ.
As Rolling Stone notes, the rep did not say why the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer suddenly stopped paying taxes.
According to The Daily Mail, Kelly is scheduled to perform at the Reggae Sumfest 2012 in Jamaica next month. In March, he announced plans to continue his epic rap saga “Trapped in the Closet” with new chapters for IFC.
Kelly isn't the only singer with tax problems. Lauryn Hill was charged with tax evasion last week.
