Rihanna and Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons will star in an upcoming DreamWorks animated film.
The film will be titled Happy Smekday! and is based on the 2007 children’s sci-fi novel, The True Meaning of Smekday, according to NME.
In the film, a friendly alien race invades Earth to hide from their mortal enemies. When one of the aliens accidentally gives away his location, he is forced to go on the run with a teenage girl.
Tim Johnson, co-director of DreamWorks Animations’ Antz and Over the Hedge, will direct the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Get Smart writers Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember will pen the screenplay.
DreamWorks plans to release the film late 2014.
Rihanna made her big-screen debut in the action film, Battleship, which opened to disappointing numbers at the box office last month. Smekday will be her first animated film. Next year, she is set to appear in the Seth Rogen comedy, End of the World.
Jim Parsons has won two Emmys for his role as Sheldon Cooper in Big Bang Theory. He has previously done voice cameos for TV shows, including Family Guy and The Superhero Squad Show. Parsons also voiced the villain, Nightmare, in the 2010 video game, Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet.
