(Special) Top 5 Weekend Must Downloads

By Stephanie Middleton,
Made especially for alternative music lovers

This week's Must Downloads are tailored to fans of the alternative genre! Enjoy!

1) “Haunted Heart” – little hurricane

Although this song has been out for a bit, the official video was posted more recently. Its hard rock edge will leave you with your hand on the repeat button. “Haunted Heart” belongs in a grunge friendly soundtrack, as it is the appropriate musical score for a rebelliously scandalous movie moment. At only two minutes and forty-five seconds, this track makes you cringe for more dark grimy perfection.

2) “Submarines” – The Lumineers

This wonderfully playful song is a sure love for Lumineers fans. Untouched vocals add to the inviting musicality of “Submarines.” The simple steady beat grows as layers upon layers of instruments are added to the mix. This track is one of the more lighthearted off The Lumineers’ new album, The Lumineers.

3) “All These Days – ”Radical Something

A little bit of beach music, a little bit of boy band, a little bit of white boy rap equals a lot bit greatness. No doubt that this is a feel good tune you’ll play during a long sun-filled drive this summer. These guys have the right idea singing, “This West coast weather/ Gunna make it all better.” The guitar, the unabashed auto-tune, the tinkling piano backed by the raw drum beat makes for one great summer song.

4) “Take A Walk” – Passion Pitt

Passion Pitt never fails to deliver a perfect mix of electronic pop and alternative rock. “Take A Walk,” written with a super catchy and simple chorus, is classic Passion Pitt. A little less techno warped as previous hits, like “Sleepyhead,” this track offers a more hit radio station friendly version of PP’s sound.

5) “The Wave” – Mike Snow

Mike Snow, known for his somewhat haunting music, gives us a new track to fall in love with. “The Wave,” also available in several remixed versions, stands well untouched and un-remixed. With a drumbeat similar to a driving marching band, the song has a sense of underlying determination. Feel free to check out the remixes, however, the original is leagues ahead.
