Alicia Keys posted a video blog late last month announcing her new outlook on life with the upcoming song, appropriately titled “New Day.” The inspiring track reflects the singer's optimistic feel on her untitled follow-up album to 2009's The Element of Freedom.
Rolling Stone reports that Keys mentions herself in the video blog as being “a different person, a new person.” She credits all her recent experiences, from marrying producer Swizz Beatz to having a new child, as her reasons for having a positive look at life.
"Everything is new, from being married and having a baby [Egypt], and what that's done for me in just giving me a sense of real stability, real connection, grounding, reason, and purpose. So much of the music that you're going to hear is talking about what that feels like, what we're all going through, all of us ... That empowerment, that freedom is definitely something that's reflected in this album,” Keys says in her video.
Key's later leaked the track during the final week of June. Instead of being a light-hearted tune, “New Day,” is a summer banger with its rattling drum as Keys sings of celebrating with her “party people.”
The Los Angeles Times reports that the new track was produced by Keys' husband, Beatz. The “Fallin'” songstress sings “New Day” with a raw and confident vocal delivery. “I'm going to give it my all whether I rise or fall,” Keys croons optimistically.
The Element of Freedom, Keys' most recent studio effort, hit No. 2 on Billboard's album charts in 2009. Her upcoming album is due for release by the end of this year.
