Actor Chris Hemsworth’s star continues to rise as he has been cast as the lead in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film Robopocalypse.
Hemsworth has had two box office hits this year with The Avengers and Snow White and the Huntsman.
The film, which will be written by Drew Goddard and based on the novel by Daniel H. Wilson, is set to open on April 25, 2014.
It will be a co-production from DreamWorks, Disney and Fox. The story centers on the aftermath of a robotic uprising against humanity.
Spielberg’s latest film, Lincoln, is set for release in the fall. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th U.S. President and take place toward the end of the Civil War.
Hemsworth is expected to appear in sequels to Avengers and Snow White as well as an upcoming remake of Red Dawn (1984). He will also bee seen in Thor: The Dark World in November 2013.
His next film will be In the Heart of the Sea, in which he plays the first mate of a ship in 1820 Nantucket, which is destroyed by a massive sperm whale. It is based on a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick.
