The episode starts off with Stacy confronting Jane about the Owen situation, but Jane tries to explain she still needs to believe in him and have hope. They are interrupted by Jane’s mom who has a case for her; the young girl Jane used to babysit is being accused of murder, but according to Jane’s mom, she is innocent. Jane doesn’t want to represent her, but after her mother explains how close the two were when the girl’s father left, Jane decides to help out.
At the law firm, a woman named Gina wants to make a large loan to the firm, outbidding Luke. Teri comes inside and doesn’t like Gina one bit, but Gina doesn’t seem to mind.
Jane meets with Peg, the mother of the young girl, Chloe, who was accused of killing a young girl named Brittany who was on the same swim team as she. The police charged Chloe as a minor and offered her a plea bargain of two years in juvenile detention. She finds a text that Chloe sent to Brittany threatening her, but Chloe explains she was just upset. Jane decides to help Chloe as best as she can.
In court, Jane has her mother send the District Attorney a text from his wife’s phone to prove that anyone can take someone’s phone and say anything. The judge agrees with Jane and they drop the text message from the evidence.
Outside court, the District Attorney tells Jane they have now decided to charge Chloe as an adult and they are willing to offer her 5 years in jail. She goes to talk to Chloe about it, but Chloe still wants to fight and stand up for herself.
At the office, Parker tells Grayson he wants him to take Gina out to dinner, basically to impress her.
At the pakery, Teri and Stacy start talking about Owen; Teri found out that Owen got a motel room in Minneapolis. They decide to respect Jane’s wishes and not talk to her about it.
At the office, Jane’s mom asks her all about Owen, but she decides to ignore it and focus on the case. Jane needs Teri to find someone who can confirm Chloe was home. Kim walks in and tells Jane that she is working with her on the case, and that Jane has to get them to pay. Kim wants Teri to try and find Chloe’s father to get some money.
Gina finds out that Grayson took her out because Parker wanted him to and he decides to go and take her some place else so they can really enjoy themselves. Parker approves of him entertaining Gina. And Gina and Grayson have hit it off and are hanging out again.
While in court, a young man who was there the night of Brittany’s murder is on stand. He says that he saw a person running away in a yellow jacket, but Jane proves that anyone could have bought the jacket. However, the DA shows that Chloe’s jacket had a missing zipper and the zipper was found at the crime scene.
Teri could not find anyone to confirm Chloe was home, but she found out that when Chloe dropped her sister, Michelle, off somewhere that day but she never went. Teri then finds out that they want Peg to go on the stand.
At the office, Luke is rolling in a slushie machine and Parker is not happy. He goes to talk to Jane about Owen, and she tells him off because he wanted her away from Grayson and then she fell for Owen and he left.
When Chloe comes in, Jane explains that Michelle could have been at the crime scene at the time of the murder. Chloe refuses to let that evidence go into court, she would rather go to jail herself than have her sister go. Jane tells Kim that they cannot go after her sister. However, at court, Kim decides to ignore her wishes. Jane tries to stop her in the middle of court, and the judge orders a recess and tries to find out what is going on. The judge orders Michelle to be taken into custody, but she has disappeared.
When Jane gets a call from Michelle, Kim tells her to ignore it, but Jane doesn't because she wants to make sure the girl is okay. She goes to meet with Michelle and finds out her story; she was smoking pot instead of in art class. Jane goes with Michelle to turn herself in.
Teri meets with Stacy at the pakery, and Stacy tells Teri that Owen has one friend in Minneapolis, his college girlfriend. At the office, Teri tells Luke that he may be replaced, and she encouraged him to fight for his job. Luke meets with Gina and tries to dissuade her from the job, but she tells him she knows about everything. Gina goes to tell Parker she will invest in the firm, and Luke is out of the job.
Teri meets Jane at the police station because Jane may know who killed Brittany.
At court, Jane proves that Peg was actually at the pool and killed Brittany. She found chlorine that matched the pool on Peg’s shoes. Kim is happy about the results of the case and asks Teri if she found the girls’ father. She tells them it looks like he disappeared.
Jane then realizes something and runs off to talk to her mom to find out more. The girls’ father’s bones were found in the backyard, and they found out that Peg also killed him years ago.
Meanwhile, Teri and Stacy ask Jane and her mom to meet them; they want to have an “ex-fiance` bonfire,” and burn everything that reminds her of Owen. She decides it is time to give in and accept the reality and burns the items.
Next week, it looks as if things will be heating up once again between Jane and Grayson.
