Frank Ocean states the importance of revealing his sexuality before his album release

Frank Ocean famously proclaimed that his first love was with a man one summer years ago.

Ocean revealed the news via Tumblr prior to the release of his new album Channel Orange. Now, the singer-songwriter opened up to The Guardian where he admitted that the news had to come out before the release of the highly anticipated album.

He admitted that his decision to open up was primarily “about my own sanity and my ability to feel like I'm living a life where … I'm happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin' boulder on my chest."

The R&B singer informed that the letter was written in December 2011 and would also be included in the album sleeve in order to rid any confusion in his new songs which contain lyrics about other men. He states, “knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait longer, to not say it till who knows when."

Channel Orange is available now, and hit the number 2 spot on the Billboard chart in its first week.
