Actress Gabrielle Union stated Monday that the divorce of her current beau Dwyane Wade negatively affected her career.
Union discussed the matter in an interview with Radio One’s T. T. Torrez in Miami.
Specifically, the actress discussed how the Miami Heat player’s divorce from Siohvaughn Funches led some to view the actress as a homewrecker.
“It’s hard because, aside from loving him, I want to protect myself. I’ve built my life. I built my own brand. I built my career and my career took a hit from that madness because some people refuse to see the truth, even when it’s presented to them time and time again. I love him but at some point it’s about self preservation and I needed to protect myself and everything I built,” Union, 39, said.
In June, Funches was charged with two counts of attempted child abduction, two counts of unlawful visitation interference and one count of resisting arrest after refusing to allow Wade’s sister to pick up his two sons so they could journey to Miami in time for Father’s Day.
Union currently stars on the BET series, Being Mary Jane.
