Heath Ledger’s father Kim is speaking out after James Holmes, the alleged gunman, opened fire on an Aurora, Colorado movie theater later proclaiming to the police that he was “The Joker.

Ledger famously took on the role of “The Joker” in The Dark Knight before dying of an accidental overdose in January 2008. The talented actors parents spoke to the Sunday Telegraph saying, “We can't blame Heath or the character…It's (The Joker) fictitious. I don't know what this does to the character.”

“I think that's the least of my worries,” he adds. "I'd be more worried about the families and other people involved in the tragedy rather than anything else.''

He continues, “It's terrible—the whole circumstances… The guy's obviously a nut case. He has obviously lost it. I think what America should be doing is restricting the availability of ammunition or revisiting their gun laws—that's what they should be doing.''

Holmes, the alleged gunman who killed 12 and injured nearly 50 others, Holmes reportedly painted his hair red and proclaimed he was “The Joker” before opening fire on eager Dark Knight Rises fans. He is currently in custody while officials attempt to access his bobby-trapped apartment.
