Just days after it was reported that Jessica Biel would co-star with Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine, it has now been reported that she has dropped out of the negotiations.
On Friday, Deadline first reported that Biel was all set to join the cast of the film to star as Viper, a character who has been both a villain and a hero in the X-Men comics.
However, on Wednesday, sources told Collider that the talks between Biel and 20th Century Fox, the studio making the film, just broke down. The studio is now stuck talking to other actresses to fill the role.
While Biel won’t be joining the cast, reports last week did confirm that a roster of Japanese actors had recently been cast to fill several major roles in the film, which centers on Wolverine in Japan. Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Will Yun Lee will be starring in the film. Will Yun Lee has been cast as the film’s main villain, Silver Samurai.
The Wolverine is being directed by Walk The Line’s James Mangold. Jackman is returning to the title role, which he played in the X-Men trilogy and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
According to Indiwire, the film is set to start production next month. It is set for a July 26, 2013.
