Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have pulled off what is being called “the fastest divorce settlement in history.” The couple ended their five year marriage after less than two weeks since Holmes filed for divorce.
A statement has not been released from the Dawson’s Creek actress to inform fans as to why she decided to leave her Mission Impossible husband.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holmes’s tactics are “brilliant” as she has not come forward and admitted that the Church of Scientology is, in fact, the reasoning behind the split despite numerous reports to the contrary.
Reports surfaced that Holmes was hoping to obtain sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Suri, so that she can remove the child from the church. The only details in the divorce that were revealed regarding the child is that Suri will remain living with Holmes, while Cruise will receive a “generous” amount of visitation.
According to THR, the details surrounding the demise of their marriage will never be revealed and Holmes may have been a key hand in making the settlement move so quickly. The site notes that in return she may have to make a statement saying that the church was not a reason behind the divorce, so as to appease the church.
However, Holmes’s attorney, Leslie Sloane, tells THR, “There are numerous inaccuracies in the reports regarding the purported contents of the agreement reached between the parties. The agreement is confidential, and its terms will not be disclosed.”
