‘Looper’ with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis picked to open Toronto Film Festival

The sci-fi film Looper has been picked to open this year’s Toronto International Film Festival with its world premiere on Sept. 6.

The festival announced its full lineup on Tuesday. According to Variety, Looper will be among TIFF’s 61 Gala and Special Presentation films, which include 39 world premieres.

Looper was directed by Rian Johnson and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as the same character, with Willis playing the future version of Gordon-Levitt’s Joe. The time traveling thriller also stars Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels and Paul Dano.

Several other major films will have their world premieres at TIFF, including Ben Affleck’s Argo and David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook with Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing and the Wachowskis and Tom Twyker’s adaptation of Cloud Atlas and Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina will also premiere at TIFF.

The festival will also host the North American premiere of Terrence Malick’s To The Wonder with Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem. Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep will also be screened.

Looper’s wide U.S. release is set for Sept. 28. You can check out the trailer below:
