Actor Mads Mikkelsen has pulled out of the upcoming Thor 2 due to scheduling conflicts.
He had been in talks to play the antagonist of the movie.
However, the slow process of getting the film into production led to Mikkelsen being cast in the title role of the upcoming NBC series Hannibal, based on the serial killer from The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
"Yeah, that’s not happening unfortunately," said Mikkelsen. "I had a meeting with them, but they were a little too late. And then Hannibal came in, and everything just came in the same period, so now it’s not happening."
This is not the first Marvel production to have lost a potential crew member to the upcoming series. David Slade was set to direct the Daredevil reboot, but left in order to direct the Hannibal pilot.
Although a Daredevil script is finished, Fox is still looking for a replacement director.
Tom Hiddleston is set to reprise his role as Loki from the original Thor (2011), as are Natalie Portman and the original Hannibal Lector, Sir Anthony Hopkins, in their respective roles as Jane Foster and Odin. Chris Hemsworth will also reprise the title character.
Alan Taylor will direct the movie, which is set for release Nov. 15, 2013.
