Usually when couples watch The Notebook it brings them closer together. But for R. Kelly, he’s citing the movie starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as the reason he filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years.
The R&B singer wrote in his memoir Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me that he busted out crying when the movie was over because he knew his marriage was over.
“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears,” he wrote, The San Francisco Gate reports. “People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. The Notebook was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together.”
“But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day – when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses – that had come and gone… My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.”
The "Trapped in the Closet" singer divorced Andrea Kelly in 2009 after having three children together.
Andrea is now on the reality show Hollywood Exes. According to The Huffington Post, she filed an emergency protective order against her then-husband after claiming he physically abused her but she had it revoked 2 weeks later.
She also reportedly resented the singer because she was a stay at home mom and put her dancing career on the backburner.
