Rascall Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus explains having to leave the hospital when his son was born to perform sold-out shows

Rascall Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus and his wife welcomed their second child in a surprise delivery on Friday.

“It’s been a blur, to be honest,” DeMarcus told People about the arrival of their son Dylan Jay.

The baby was actually due in August, but while in Detroit for a show on Friday, DeMarcus got a call from his wife Allison letting him know she would have to get an emergency C-section that same day.

He remembers, “I immediately went into panic mode.” He got there in time, but he had to leave right away to get back to the show.

“My wife was still on the operating table so it was very, very hard to leave, but we had a sold-out show and four acts out with us. I wanted to keep my commitment and my wife gets that,” he said.

“I had a police escort when I hit the ground and got there 30 minutes before we went on stage, so I just left my scrubs on. The crowd was very sweet and gave me a standing ovation!”

He then went on to do two more shows before going home to spend time with his wife and newborn baby.

“Thanks everyone for all the well wishes!! Dylan Jay was born yesterday at 4:02pm and weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces. He's gorgeous, just like his dad," the musician tweeted a day after his arrival, E! Online reports.

“I literally got back [Monday] morning and Dylan’s been in my arms all day,” he said. “It’s made the stressful weekend worth it to come back and hold him. It’s finally sinking in that I’ve got a boy that’s going to carry on our family name and I’m so thrilled to have little Dylan in our lives.”
