Russell Brand opens up about divorce from Katy Perry

Katy Perry has already spoken about the subject and now her ex-husband Russell Brand has as well.

MTV News reports the 37-year-old British actor and comedian opened up about his divorce from the “Part of Me” pop star on Howard Stern’s radio show.

Brand and Perry got married in October 2010 after dating for a short time. He said when they got married it felt right.

"I loved her so much, it just seemed like the sensible thing to do [when we got married] ... I just loved her so much," Brand admitted.

The 37-year-old, however, realized that love alone couldn’t make the marriage successful.

"We got married and I thought, 'OK, this isn't really working out,’” he said. “It's a difficult situation ... I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other ... We were together when it was right to be together, and when it wasn't we worked it out ... It was a lovely relationship ... it mostly didn't work for practical reasons ... We did work it out, she's happy, I'm happy."

Russell said rumors of crazy sexual fetishes and rumors he didn’t get along with Perry’s religious parents were untrue. One reason the marriage didn’t work was reportedly because Brand was ready for kids and Perry wasn’t. Brand said they had talked about having kids, but wouldn’t say too much.

"She's young, successful and dedicated," he said. “You can't fully understand it until you do it. I was really into the idea of marriage and having children.”

Brand held back during the interview. He was afraid tabloids would twist his words.

"She's younger than me, she's a young woman and she's beautiful and she's sensitive and I care about her deeply ... I don't want to be too glib,” he said. “She'll read it and she'll be sad and I don't want that."

According to MTV News, when Stern brought up Katy Perry’s new song “Wide Awake,” Brand got “uncomfortable” but said he knew she had to write a song like that.

"She's a good person, I've got nothing but love for her," Brand said. "She's a young woman dealing with the breakup of a relationship ... which is understandable. It's a nice song."

Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s divorce was finalized on Monday, July 16. Perry is rumored to be dating Robert Ackroyd, a guitarist for Florence + The Machine, though she says it’s not serious. Brand has most recently been linked to Jordana Brewster’s sister Isabella, but wouldn’t open up about the romance. He simply said, “Some things in the newspaper aren't true…that's true, actually.”
