Russell Brand has been ordered to perform 20 hours of community service for hurling an iPhone through a glass window in March.
The actor was arraigned Thursday and is also ordered to pay a $500 fine.
He threw a paparazzo’s iPhone through the window of a building in New Orleans. Brand was not present during the arraignment, although his attorney entered a plea of not-guilty.
Brand has been charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
The case will be dismissed if Brand completes his community service by Aug. 31.
The actor divorced singer Katy Perry on July 16 after 14 months of marriage.
He confirmed to Howard Stern last week that he is now dating Isabella Brewster, the younger sister of actress Jordana Brewster.
"Some things in the newspaper aren't true . . . that's true, actually,” Brand said, in what was his first interview since his divorce.
He also told Stern that he has nothing but love for Perry.
