Despite his separation from wife Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise has good reason to celebrate turning 50 - he has been named by Forbes magazine as the highest-paid actor in Hollywood for the year.
Over the last 12 months, Cruise has earned $75 million. Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler both tied for second place with $37 million.
Rounding out the list were Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson with $36 million and Ben Stiller with $33 million.
While Cruise’s recent film, Rock of Ages, was a box-office flop, his previous movie, Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011), made over $700 million worldwide, with Cruise getting a portion of the profits.
Other successful films Cruise has been in over the course of his career include Risky Business (1983), Top Gun (1986), The Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988), Born on the Fourth of July (1989), A Few Good Men (1992), Jerry Maguire (1996), Minority Report (2002), Collateral (2004) and War of the Worlds (2005).
Holmes filed for divorce on Friday after five years of marriage. The separation was allegedly due to her desire to keep the couple’s daughter, 6-year-old Suri, out of the Scientology religion, of which Cruise is an active member. Holmes is seeking full custody of Suri.
