By Daniel S Levine,

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks’ animated project Electric City will finally debut on Yahoo this month.

Back in January, Yahoo announced that it would team up with Hanks, his Playton production company and Reliance entertainment for the series, which has long been a pet project for the actor. He will produce and star in the series.

Yahoo finally announced that the 90-minute sci-fi adventure series will go live on July 17. In the announcement, Yahoo claims that the unique series will bring Hanks’ vision of “360 degree online interaction of digital, social, mobile and gaming media.”

"The much anticipated Electric City is here - we at Yahoo! could not be more thrilled to be the digital partner for this unparalleled, groundbreaking series," said Erin McPherson VP & Head of Video at Yahoo in a statement. “Partnering with Playtone, Reliance Entertainment and one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Tom Hanks, is an important milestone for Yahoo! in paving the way to becoming the global destination for premium online content from the best storytellers in entertainment.”

According to Deadline, the series will be split into 20 episodes that run five to seven minutes long. The first half will be available immediately on July 17, with the rest going up on July 18-19.

The rest of the voice cast includes Big Love’s Jeanne Tripplehorn, Two and a Half Men’s Holland Taylor, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Antoon, Chris Parnell, Paul Scheer and many others.

Relliance Entertainment’s Jump Games will also be releasing an iOS and Android app for mobile devices that will includes other content such as behind-the-scenes footage.
