By Stephanie Middleton,
New Must Downloads for a Night Outside

Clearly, these songs are geared towards those who enjoy a solid soundtrack to accompany your casual night outdoors. A little rock, a little roll, a little blue grass and a little country make for a stellar Top 5 Must Downloads.

1) “Mercy” by Dave Matthews Band

Dave never disappoints. To those who are die-hard DMB fans, there really is no song that we don’t love. This first single release off of his upcoming album, Away From The World, is one hit of the expected many. Keep an eye out for his new stuff, with a scheduled release date of Sept. 11. It is available for pre-order now on iTunes.

2) “Levi” by Old Crow Medicine Show

This is the same group that brought you the incredibly popular “Wagon Wheel”. However, that is not the only song by OCMS that is worth listening too. “Levi”, a story about a man living in a small town, is a laid-back but surprisingly uplifting song that will get your inner southerner going and ready to dance. Perfect for a casual outdoor night, especially for a bonfire soundtrack.

3) “Hold On” by Alabama Shakes

This band manages to be new-age rock and old-school soul all in once. With a driving drummer, an excellent guitarist, and a unique singer, Alabama shakes delivers a more than enjoyable summer track. “Hold On” is reminiscent of The Black Keyes and The White Stripes with a dash of classic rock.

4) “Live and Die” by The Avett Brothers

Unlike the others on this list, “Live and Die” is much more sing-songy. The Avett Brothers sing about loving and tempting a girl by convincing her that they are one in the same. This track is enjoyably lighthearted in subject and melody. Known for their talent on the strings, The Avett Brothers released this single in early July.

5) “Lay Down” by Alberta Cross

Far darker than the previous four, “Lay Down” is an alternative rock hit from the pretty low-key band Alberta Cross. Off of their newest album Songs of Patience , “Lay Down” is angsty but melodic. It’s a little heavy, but upon hearing it, you’ll fall in love with it’s simplistic genius.
