Gabby Douglas’s gold medal in the all-around gymnastics competition on Thursday caught the attention of celebrities, many of whom took to social media to express their appreciation for the 16-year-old Olympian’s accomplishment.
Beyonce devoted a blog post to Douglas, congratulating her and saying, “Thank you for inspiring all of us!”
Lil Wayne was equally touched by the Olympian’s accomplishment, tweeting, “Glad i lived to see what Gabby Douglas did in the Olympics. Icon.”
Nicki Minaj also tweeted about Douglas’s victory, saying, “*kisses to Gabby* what an amazing little firecracker.”
Douglas responded to Lil Wayne’s tweet, saying, “WOW!!!! Im speechless Thank you SOO MUCH!!”
Nicki Minaj noticed that Douglas responded to Lil Wayne but not to her and sent a joking tweet to Lil Wayne that said, “Oh wow, I tweeted about #Gabby earlier but she responds to @LilTunechi and not me? U know what? Ima fight u. I've had it!!!”
According to MTV News, Douglas also got recognition on Twitter from Oprah Winfrey, Estelle, Ian Somerhalder, Ciara, Gabrielle Union, Timbaland, Elizabeth Banks and Michael Phelps.
Douglas is not done at the Olympics yet; she will compete for medals in individual events on Monday and Tuesday.
