Evelyn Lozada, the wife of former NFL Pro Bowler Chad Johnson, has filed for divorce. This comes just days after Johnson was arrested for head-butting Lozada.
Lozada filed documents in Florida just hours ago, reports TMZ. She said that the marriage, which is less than two months old, is “irretrievably broken.”
A rep for Lozada later confirmed to The Huffington Post that she has filed for divorce.
Johnson, who was formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was arrested on a domestic violence charge Saturday after getting into an argument outside their Miami home over a receipt for a box of condoms, during which he head-butted Lozada.
He was then released by the Miami Dolphins. VH1 later announced that it would not air the reality series Ev and Ocho, even though it was reported that 11 episodes were filmed, including their wedding, which just took place on July 4.
Lozada, a star on Basketball Wives did issue a statement to the media before filing divorce, which read, “It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday...I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I’m grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.”
