The death of music mogul Chris Lighty has shaken up the hip-hop world, especially those who had the pleasure of working with him.
Underneath his management company Violator, Lighty, 44, was responsible for the careers of such mega-stars as Mariah Carey, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, 50 Cent and more.
The Get Rich or Die Tryin’ rapper and business mogul himself, 50 Cent, said in a statement to Billboard, "Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade. He was a good friend and advisor who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed."
Mariah Carey, the newest American Idol judge, took to Twitter to express her sadness over his passing.
"Love & heartfelt prayers go out to Chris Lighty's family & all of us whose lives he touched," she wrote. "Words cannot express the sadness we share today."
"R.I.P. Chris Lighty. He Was A Dear Friend Of Mine And I Still Can't Believe It," Diddy wrote, MTV News reports.
Missy Elliott also wrote "Chris Lighty U taught me 2 B Fearless! U help build So many Artist Careers. This is such a sad time 4 all the lives u touched."
