David Cronenberg criticizes 'The Dark Knight Rises'

By Robert Kirchgassner ,

In an interview with MTV, director David Cronenberg revealed that he is not a fan of the hit Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

“I don't think they know what the f--k they're talking about,” he said, referring to people who view Rises as a work of art.

Cronenberg is currently promoting his latest film, Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson.

His other movies include The Dead Zone (1983), The Fly (1986), Dead Ringers (1988) and A History of Violence (2005), which was based on the graphic novel by John Wagner and Vince Locke.

"I don't think they are making them an elevated art form,” the director added about Batman. “I think it's still Batman running around in a stupid cape. I just don't think it's elevated. (Director) Christopher Nolan's best movie is 'Memento,' and that is an interesting movie. I don't think his Batman movies are half as interesting though they're 20 million times the expense."

Cronenberg also stated that filming Cosmopolis proved more surreal than he anticipated.
