'Drop Dead Diva' Recap: 8/14

By Danielle Costa,

Owen and Jane are back together, but she is nervous around him because he is still recovering from surgery.

Jane goes to Deb’s mother, Bobbie’s dance studio to see her, which brings back memories of when she used to dance as a kid. Bobbie then tells her that she is being sued because one of her students fell and hurt herself during a private lesson. Jane is shocked because the court date is the following day. At mediation, the opposing counsel and mother of the child are arguing and saying that Bobbie pushed the kid. All of a sudden, a lawyer representing Bobbie’s insurance company, Simon, walks in.

Grayson is representing a woman he went to high school with, whom he doesn’t remember. She is an artist and the city she worked for refuses to pay her for the sculpture she made. When Grayson goes to speak to them, they explain that the sculpture is obscene. They think it looks like a vagina. When he tells his client, she is appalled.

Stacy comes to the office with heart healthy cookies for Owen and she tells Jane that when she used to take classes with Bobbie she would cry a lot. Simon comes and takes a cookie away and Jane and him go work on discovery for the case.

Grayson goes up to Kim and asks for her help on the case. Teri sees the sculpture and says she wants one, and Grayson explains what the city said about it. Kim tells him she will help, and that he should date his client after the case is over.

At trial, Bobbie tells Jane that she is very nervous about everything. They see the mother and little girl at court and see them arguing over everything.

Opposing council questions the little girl about her injury and the little girl explains she said she wasn’t feeling well, but Bobbie made her do the move anyhow. But then, the emergency call that Bobbie made is put into the record where Bobbie apologizes to her over and over and the little girl says it is all her fault.

In a meeting with Jane, Bobbie explains that she was saying I’m sorry because she was hurt. Then, Simon comes in and tells them a new witness is called, Dance Mom’s Abby Miller. On the stand, Abby explains she is the best dance instructor in the business. They show her footage of Bobbie teaching where she yells at screams at the girls in studio. Abby explains that there is a big difference between motivating the girls and scaring them. Jane shows Abby teaching to prove that she is wrong and Bobbie isn’t the only one who teaches that way.

After trial, Jane and Simon tell her she has to agree to pay for the girls’ injuries. This has to happen because Bobbie’s business wouldn’t be able to survive any more loss.

Grayson gets Owen to be the judge at his trial and they move it to the location of her sculpture. He shows the original drawings and shows that the city approved them. Then the city shows the letters from the people that are offended by it. Kim argues it, and Owen agrees with Grayson and Kim and orders the city to pay.

At a meeting, Bobbie gets in a fight with the little girl’s mother, and she decides to go back to trial.

Grayson is on a date with his client, but Kim interrupts to tell them that the city is changing the sculpture since they can not take it down. The two freak out and go to find Owen for an emergency injunction. jane tries to keep him calm, but they come in and he grants it.

Jane goes to find Bobbie at her studio and has a flashback about her dancing and falling in competition. She asks Bobbie why she tried to ruin the settlement, she said that she didn’t understand why Simon was talking about other damages. Then Parker walks in and Bobbie explains that they amended the charge and she fires Jane.

Stacy asks Jane why she is still helping and she explains because she wants to try and help anyway. Stacy asks her which dress is more fit for a Nicki Minaj concert, that she thinks Luke is asking her out to. Jane tells her that she doesn’t like the idea of Luke and her, but helps her anyway. She also decides to go find the mother’s ex to testify that she ruins the daughter’s anxiety.

At trial, Kim and Grayson question an expert on art history. Grayson stalls until Kim can get the media and Jane. Jane finds out that Simon and the insurance company settled out of court and didn’t care about Bobbie at all. She confronts him and he tells her to go look at the trial.

Teri calls and tells Jane that Kim called and said Owen is sick at the trial to get Jane to interupt the trial. She runs in and interrupts trial and Owen calls a recess.

At court, Bobbie is on the stand but the counsel calls Stacy to the stand to talk about the tournament she competed in with Bobbie years ago. Stacy has to talk about what Bobbie did to Deb when she was younger; they are trying to prove emotional stress.

At the office, Jane explains to Parker that Simon is the one who caused all of this. Jane does some digging and finds out that there was another emergency call involving another young girl.

At court, Kim and Grayson get Teri to make the sculpture media coverage, and Owen rules that no one will touch the sculpture.

At a meeting with the little girl and the judge, Jane asks her a bunch of questions about her injury and if she could have gotten hurt before class. Turns out that the young girl hurt herself skateboarding before dance class. They end up winning the case.

At the office, Stacy finds out that Luke is taking Kim to the Nicki Minaj concert.

At the sculpture, Grayson and his client make a connection and kiss.

At Jane’s home, Bobbie comes over to apologize to Jane for everything. Jane shows Bobbie the video of the dance competition Deb was in.

Owen tells Jane that his condition has changed them and she apologizes and she says she will make it up to him.
