Another band has been forced to cancel their remaining tour schedule. Van Halen announced that it has had to cancel its remaining 2012 dates because guitarist Eddie Van Halen had to undergo emergency surgery.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page and official site, the group explained, “Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 - 6 months.”
They have been forced to cancel their November tour of Japan, which will be rescheduled. However, they added, “the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013.”
As WebMD explains, Diverticulitis occurs when pouches appear near the walls of the colon. Diverticulitis is diagnosed when these become inflamed or infected and can be very painful.
TMZ notes that the group did not say how long Eddie, 57, has been dealing with the condition or when the surgery took place.
Just yesterday it was reported that British band Duran Duran had to cancel its remaining tour dates after keyboardist Nick Rhodes came down with an illness.
This year, Van Halen was touring to promote their latest album, A Different Kind Of Truth, their first with David Lee Roth since the 1980s. Back in May, there were reports that the band was fighting again and many of their summer American tour dates were cancelled.
