Fifty Shades of Grey has been projected to eventually outsell all seven Harry Potter books.
According to Vanity Fair, E. L. James’s trilogy has been on top of the New York Times best-seller list for five months. Amazon UK has announced that the three books have all together outsold J. K. Rowling’s seven book boy-wizard epic.
"If JK Rowling was the literary phenomenon of the last decade, then EL James looks certain to take that mantle in the current decade. In just four months, EL James has become Amazon.co.uk's biggest-selling author of all time, which is truly remarkable when you consider that we've been selling books for almost 14 years,” said the EU director of the e-book company Kindle, according to Contact Music.
Due to the astonishing amount of demand for the book, publishing companies have also been feeling a pinch, "We've been running seven days per week, two shifts on it. There's never a time in our factory when it's not on a machine or two machines. I've had people ringing me up, asking me if I can get them copies. I can't even get copies," said Protectaprint managing director Richard Wilkinson, according to Pro Print.
