Not much has been known about A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, but more has been learned about Roman Coppola’s latest project. Charlie Sheen stars as a wealthy playboy who gets dumped and as a result spirals downward into a slump.
The film takes place in a skewed version of contemporary Hollywood where Sheen’s character is a graphic designer. When his life spirals downward, his friends, played by Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray, try to cheer him up.
Entertainment Weekly reported that the independent distributing company A24 acquired the rights to the film and announced that its release will be February 2013.
Director Roman Coppola, son of Hollywood royalty Francis Ford Coppola (directed the Godfather and Apocalypse Now), recently collaborated with Wes Anderson on the critically acclaimed Moonrise Kingdom, which starred Murray.
When you hear that the main character spirals downward, Charlie Sheen seems like the perfect casting, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Coppola feels Charlie has different qualities that make him good for the role. “Charlie is so perfect for the role, but he’s not perfect because of the public profile we’ve seen in the news. He’s incredibly talented as an actor, he has tons of charisma, he’s very witty. He’s very funny and charming.”
The film also stars up and coming stars Aubrey Plaza and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who worked together in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. New photo stills of the production can be seen at Collider.
