Interview with Sara Evans

Sara Evans is back after a six year hiatus with her new album, Stronger. The record is filled with the music that has made her one of the best country artists of our generation. TheCelebrityCafe.com caught up with Sara Evans to talk about her newest single, “Anywhere,” her partnership with Room to Run and what’s ahead for the rest of the year.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: “Anywhere” was the latest single released from Stronger. What was the process like for writing the song?

Sara Evans: It was a great experience writing this song. I didn’t write the song, my brother Matt Evans did. It’s the first single he’s ever had on one of my albums. I’m really rooting for the song, and I’m hoping it will be a big hit.

TCC: What other projects are you working on this year?

SE: I’ll be on tour this summer, supporting Stronger. I’ll really be pushing the album. At the end of September, I’ll head back into the studio to work on a new album. It’s been a while since I worked on an album and it’s a long process.

TCC: You’re partnered with the Nutro Company on Room to Run. What made you get involved with the organization?

SE I’m a huge dog lover! I have seven kids and a dog, who I consider my eighth child. My weekly exercise consists of tennis and running, but I really love walking with my dog. The organization is a great fit because having a local dog park is so important. Pretty dog parks that are maintained well are also important.

TCC: What’s your favorite part about working with Room to Run?

SE Room to Run is a great idea with a great message. Everyone needs a fun and safe place to be with their dogs. Room to Run isn’t about music, which I like. As a celebrity, it’s great to have a voice and influence people. It’s great to love your dogs as part of your family.

TCC: You sang the national anthem before Game 2 of the NBA Finals. What was that like?

SE:It was an awesome experience! Singing in front of crowds like that is always nerve wracking, since it’s live. My family are huge sports fanatics, and my kids were really upset that they couldn’t get to go!

TCC: How did it feel to present at the CMT Awards last month?

SE: With live events, it’s always whatever happens, happens. It’s live, so there’s never a chance to redo it. You get accustomed to turning it on. It was a surreal experience and something I always dreamed of as a child. You just have to remember to take it all in.

TCC: Your most recent book, Love Lifted Me, was published recently. What made you decide to become an author?

SE: I was very intimidated to write at first, but after I thought about it, I decided to do it with another writer. I wrote the books from a spiritual perspective, [that's] where I was coming from. I thought about the strong women around me growing up and the relationships I had with them.

TCC: What’s one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced during your career?

SE: One of the biggest challenges I’ve had to deal with is being pulled between career and family. I make my kids a priority, but it’s harder when they’re older. When they were little, I had a nanny with me and I took them everywhere. Now that they’re not little kids anymore, they have their own schedules and are doing different things. I don’t want to miss anything and I’m very hands on with raising them.

TCC: As you look back from where you’ve started, what are you most proud of?

SE: I’m proud that I’ve been able to put my family first throughout my career. It’s kept me from achieving some things because I have kids and a husband. I value being a mom and that’s my biggest accomplishment. You always have the pressure to do everything and more to advance your career. I’ve said no to a lot of things because I don’t want to be away from my kids. I’m happy that I’ve always put my family first.
