By Meaghan Fleming,

A pilot for the Joss Whedon series about the Marvel defense group, entitled S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) is in the works and will begin production straight away.

After the success of The Avengers , Whedon signed a deal with Marvel Studios which states he gets to influence all the upcoming Marvel movies, including Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, as well as television projects till mid 2015 Comingsoon reports. ABC is reported as ordering the pilot for the show.

The show will be live action, unlike the other Marvel shows on television at the moment. There is also a show about the big green man, The Hulk, in development by Marvel TV as well as various other unannounced projects.

Deadline states Whedon will be writing the show along with one of his brothers, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed’s spouse. Both Jed Whedon and Tancharoen have worked on big Whedon projects before including Dollhouse and the cult favorite Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. All three will also be executive producers of the show, along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb.

It is not confirmed at this time if Whedon will also be directing the show, but he has directed episodes of shows he created in the past including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. Furthermore Comic Book Resources states there are no details about casting as of now.
