Nick Noonan and Amy Heidemann, better known as pop duo Karmin, are back with a new video.
After earning huge success with their single "Brokenhearted" and releasing a video for the song "I Told You So" off their debut album, Hello, Karmin premiered the new video for their latest single "Hello."
They've come a long way since covering songs like "Look at Me Now" on YouTube, but Nick Noonan says unlike "Brokenhearted," which left rapping to a minimum, "Hello" gets back to showing off Amy's impressive rapping skills. Plus, "Hello" is also catchy.
"It's kind of more of the 'Look at Me Now' hip-hop roots, all the videos that blew up with all the rapping," Noonan told MTV News. "So we kind of get back to that a little bit here. It's fun. It's one of those songs I've been listening to for like 10 months and I'm still not sick of it yet, so hopefully that's a good thing. "
According to PopCrush, when it comes to the video, which was shot in Chinatown, it demonstrates "metamorphosis" and how the duo is evolving. It shows a butterfly breaking out of its cocoon as well as Nick and Amy's physical transformation in the video.
Nick and Amy see the new video as their real introduction to the world. A "coming-out party."
"It's mostly performance-based," Nick Noonan added to MTV about the video. "It's very cool ambiance, a lot of cool visuals and it's kind of like our coming-out party. 'Brokenhearted' was obviously very successful for us, went platinum last month or two ago, so there is kind of like, 'Hey, we're Karmin, nice to meet you.' That's the idea."
Amy Heidemann added that they wanted to wait a while before releasing a song like "Hello."
"We wanted to kind of hold on to this one until the world had a better idea of who we were, and I think 'Brokenhearted' really helped establish us as artists," she said. "This one gets a little darker, the sound is darker, there's more rap in it, it's a little more aggressive."
