Lily Tomlin elected governor of Academy's Performers Peer Group

By Robert Kirchgassner ,

Actress Lily Tomlin is now the new governor of the Television Academy’s Performers Peer Group.

Her predecessor, Kathryn Joosten, died in June, so Tomlin was elected Tuesday as her replacement until December, when Joosten’s term was set to end. Tomlin may be re-elected after that.

Jonathan Murray and David McKillop were elected as the inaugural governors for the new Reality Programming Peer Group. McKillop’s term will also end in Dec. 2012, while Murray’s term will end in Dec. 2013.

The Reality Programming Peer Group was created earlier this year. At the same time, the Academy voted that the Nonfiction Programming Peer Group be renamed the Documentary Programming Peer Group.

Tomlin became famous on the series Laugh-In. Her movies include 9 to 5 (1980), All of Me (1984), Short Cuts (1993) and Nashville (1975), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She’s won six Emmy Awards, two Tonys and a Grammy.

Coincidentally, she and Joosten played sisters on the ABC series Desperate Housewives.
