MTV Video Music Awards nominations are in

By Kevin Lewis,

The MTV Video Music Awards nominations feature some of music’s most popular acts including Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Drake.

Lil Wayne’s music video “How to Love” was nominated for the Best Video VMA. The rapper, who closed out last year’s show by performing his song “John,” said, "That's awesome right there," about his nomination.

Drake received the most nominations this year with five, including four for his song “Take Care.” The track, which features Rihanna, is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. According to Chron, Drake will be competing with his rival Chris Brown for Best Male Video.

Drake’s video for “HYFR” was also nominated for Best Hip-Hop video.

"I think it's just insight into my genuine character. I think that's what's most entertaining about it," Drake said, according to MTV News about the video for “HYFR.” "The fun being had in the video is real fun and insight into my mind, because I thought of this. This is a Drake moment, a lot like the talking [I do] onstage, because that's really me."

Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap” will be competing with Drake’s for Best Hip-Hop video while her video for “Starships” is up for Best Female Video.
