NBC’s newest sitcom The New Normal aired a two minute preview of the upcoming sitcom Friday.
According to Huffington Post, the Ryan Murphy comedy stars Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells who play gay couple David and Bryan. David and Bryan are ready to start a family and seek the help of Georgia King, who plays single mom Goldie. Ellen Barkin plays King’s “bigoted” grandmother in the series.
The New Normal will air its first episode on NBC September 11. Although the program has yet to air, it has not come without controversy.
Last month, One Million Moms openly contested the production of the program saying, “NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture."
The group also claims that NBC’s production of the program is an attempt to “desensitize America and our children.”
GLAAD refuted the ideas of One Million Moms in their own statement saying, “From hit shows like Glee to Modern Family, it's clear that Americans today don't care whether their favorite TV characters are straight or gay. We now live in a culture where gay people are not only a common part of our society but where gay characters are also applauded by both TV critics and audiences alike."
