Ryan Gosling to make debut as director with ‘How To Catch A Monster’ starring Christina Hendricks

By Daniel S Levine,

Ryan Gosling is best known for his acting skills, but now the Oscar nominee is going to work behind the camera for his next project. The Gangster Squad star is set to write and direct How To Catch A Monster.

The Wrap reports that the film is being described as a “fantasy noir.” It tells the story of a single mother of two who finds herself in a dark underworld, while her eldest son finds an underwater town. The mother will be played by Gosling’s Drive co-star, Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks.

Marc Platt Productions’ Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce the film in collaboration with Gosling’s Phantasma Films and Michel Litvak and David Lancaster's Bold Films. Sierra/Affinity will put the project up for sale to international distributors at the Toronto Film Festival.

Production will start next spring.

“I am very appreciative to Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Bold Films for being so supportive and I look forward to making this film with all of them,” Gosling said in a statement, reports Entertainment Weekly.

“We are thrilled to be producing Ryan Gosling’s debut as a writer and director and continue our collaboration which began on Drive,” Platt added. “He has composed a beautifully haunting script and has a very clear vision of how he will bring it to life. His ability to draw audiences into his world as an actor will serve him well as a filmmaker.”

It was not announced if Gosling will take a role in the film or not.
This will be Gosling’s first time writing and directing. He has several films in the pipeline, including The Place Beyond The Pines, directed by Derek Cianfrance. His next film is Gangster Squad, which will finally be released in January.
